Two Turtledoves

by Mike Messer
(United states)

Two Turtledoves

Two Turtledoves

The death of these two victims, was required by the Old Testament law, upon the birth of a child - Mike Messer.

And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean Lev 12:8 KJV

That is the scripture that you are referring to, Mike. What a beautiful painting! I see the freshness of youth in her eyes, full of the expectation of this momentous event- the birth of this special child.

There is appropriately, not even a glimpse of the pain that is to come later, or the triumph, even further on in her life. Here she is full of the sweetness of new motherhood.

Isn't it poignant that she will return many times from then on to offer sacrifices for all her other children?

But there will come a day, when those sacrifices will no longer be necessary, when this child, for whom she first sacrificed, will become THE sacrifice for all time - for her, and for countless other mothers, and indeed all mankind!

Thank you for sharing, Mike. Please continue to share your wonderful work.
