Broken Heart

Susan Hill:

"Believe it or not, it was a Jew who inspired me!
I toured Israel in 1985. Our guide was a Jew and was very interested in Christian spirituality. He told us a story of the Last Supper. He said that as Jesus raised His hands in prayer with the bread, the shape that formed in His hands was a heart.

This story stuck with me for many years and was the inspiration for this painting. I am pleased with the result.

P.S I recently had communion and when I looked at the bread IT was a perfect heart!!!!!"

The bread at Last Supper
by: Mary

When the Priest raises the host at mass, it is broken representing the sacrifice at Calvary, and often it is held up to form a heart shape---not always, but I have seen that image.
