Jun 13, After the Master Class

Here is a brief report that I promised after last week's event in Branson, MO.

There is something powerful about believers gathering together to share Christ. Life flows. Nuts and bolts of various disciplines were taught and discussed.

There were 60 participants, undoubtedly a modest beginning, but one that somehow seemed complete. Faculty and participants came from California, Washington, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Branson, Kansas, Missouri and Texas. Students attended workshops and panels in water color, polymer clay, voice, drama, mime, street acts, faith in media and entertainment, song writing, writing and production amongst others.

So for all those who were there, I was blessed by your presence and contribution. For those who missed out, there will probably be a next time that you might want to participate in.

What an amazing victory was won on this blessed morning! More precious to me than ever before, I am slowly uncovering in little glimpses, what this victory means to me personally.

This poem was written for this Easter 2010

The Night Watch

Drowsy the watch, thick the night
Snapped a dry twig in a blaze of light
Molten bronzed embers of a weary fire
Bored soldiers yawned on a night of hire
Shh! Lest you startle eyes open wide
Of men of great valor, vigor and pride
Worthless this watch of a dreary, sealed tomb
A battered cold body held in its stone womb

Shh! Scurrying mouse, and owl overhead
Instincts full of dark unaccustomed dread
Portend of evil in a world yet unseen
Revealing no clues of what this might mean

Shh! All who sleep on this ordinary night
A war for your souls is waged out of sight
Unaware of a grave powerless to contain
Fierce armies of evil striving to restrain

Shh! Hear the shrieking of demonic force
Clamping of jaws to snap firmly close
Death, cold and empty, grasping for the prize
Life, full and vibrant, in its clawing vise

Hearken to the deep rumble of thunder
Supernal force of evil rend asunder
Blinding the flash of ethereal, hot light
In silence has changed the tenor of this night

Shh! Stand in awe, wipe sleep from your eyes
Behold incredulous, this is no concocted lie
He who was dead stands impossibly alive
Before yawning tomb, amidst sleepy life

Shh! Learn well from this wondrous night
In an ordinary moment, death was put to flight
Refrain from dullness of spirit and soul
Stay sharply awake to glimpse wars of the soul

Shh! When He turns to call you by name
Leap to your feet, lest you be put to shame
For expecting so little of that night of promise
Though for eons God spoke of making you His.

Sep 29, Playing with words once more.

This poem below is based on the rather puzzling, and unusual verse in Psalm 36.

Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. Ps 36:5

To the Clouds
If to the clouds your faithfulness extends
Where do I begin and where do I end
Like playing with Lego, Ill make a stack
You forgave my sin and took me back

This block is for food, in famine and plenty
A block for patience, when foolish and twenty
Here fits a block for answering faithless prayer
When hastily whispered, without a care

How high can I stack the blocks for your kindness
Rebuking me not for my ignorance and blindness
Blocks innumerable for revealing to me
Lessons slowly learned when I refused to see

Snap goes a block for keeping me healthy
Many a block for making me wealthy
Blocks for friends and dear family
This tower it totters gloriously

Higher and higher, beyond all I can see
Red and yellow blocks sparkling cheerily
Still further in the heavens is your mercy
Your faithfulness no longer a mystery

If all the worlds Lego were mine to build
And my memory true, of promises fulfilled
This tower of faithfulness yet I abort
Of blocks and thought, Im woefully short

Jul 18, My King

Returning from visiting family and friends, half way around the world evokes contrary emotions. There is the all pervasive joy of renewed relationships, love and sharing. But it is always seasoned with the inevitable teary goodbyes that end our times together.

I am so grateful that when I leave to return home, there is one 'Goodbye' I never have to say. Never do I have to leave my best friend, Jesus, behind. His presence is ever with me - a constant comfort. I never wander too far that I am outside His kingdom, or His dominion.

Apr 29, Parables Show

The Sower was accepted into the Parables Show in Dallas. There were 200 works of art that had to be culled to about 100 works.

Patricia Meadows was one of the jurors. She is the Senior Vice President of Hall Financial Group, and Senior Curator and Collection Manager of the Texas Sculpture Garden. Mrs. Meadows is owner of Art Connections, co-founder and a long-term curator of the Dallas Visual Art Center.

The other was Fujimura Makoto, born in 1960 in Boston, Massachusetts and educated bi-culturally between the US and Japan. In 1992, Makoto was honored as the youngest artist ever to have had a piece acquired by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo.

The Parables opening was preceded by a wonderful concert in the Park Cities Presbyterian church across the street.
This was a terrific show with plenty of unique Christian art. I was humbled to be one of the artists to win a Blue Ribbon for The Sower.

Apr 20, Columbine Remembered

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the tragedy at Columbine. I watched an interview on TV with Brooks, a friend of one of the killers, and his parents. It was apparent that the horror of that event is still fresh for them today, as it must be for the numerous others who were fortunate to survive.

They were still bewildered by the horrific presence of evil that day, expressed through the young lives of the two killers, who mercilessly gunned down their classmates.

In sharp contrast, the sweetness of Rachel's life, one of the victims of that tragedy, is as inspiring today as it was 10 years ago.

If you have not yet read the amazing story of this young artist, today would be a good day to remember Columbine.

May you remember that in the midst of worst expression of human evil, God's presence is evident, as He reveals Himself through young Rachel's life.
